The Rules of Texas Holdem Poker

The game of Texas Holdem poker is one of the most popular poker games around.  Texas Holdem is loved for its fast pace and simple rules.  If you don’t already know how to play Holdem you are in luck—the rules of this popular game are very easy to learn.

Texas Holdem poker rules state that the game of Holdem is played over a course of rounds in which players place bets and receive cards.  Before the game begins blind bets are placed in order to start building the prize pool, or ante.  Then the game of Holdem poker begins.

In the first round of Holdem poker each player receives 2 private cards.  These cards may not be viewed by the other players.  Based on these cards, players decide to fold, call or raise.  According to poker rules a player who folds forfeits and leaves the game, a player who calls stays in with a minimum bet and a player who raises stays in and raises the minimum bet.

In the following rounds of Texas Holdem Poker 5 community cards are dealt and shared by all of the players.  Each time cards are dealt a new round of betting (folding/calling/raising) occurs.  Once all of the cards have been dealt the Showdown occurs.  All players that remain in the game will reveal final 5-card poker hands made up of private and community cards.  The player with the best 5-card hand is the winner and takes the prize pool.
